Last November it was announced that the Facebook corporation had agreed to purchase The Farm Bureau domain name ‘FB.com’.At the time nobody thought much of the deal but it is now being revealed by the American Farm Bureau Federation that Facebook paid a hefty sum for ‘FB.com’.
What’s a domain name worth?
Well according to Reuters “At their annual meeting in Atlanta, Farm Bureau officials on Tuesday said the organization earned $8.5 million selling a couple of domain names but is barred from identifying the buyer.”Seeing that the only significant domain name deal was the FB.com one, then it’s fair to assume that the bulk of this money came from Facebook.
This might give some encouragement to those people who bought hundreds of domain names years ago in the hope they would be worth something in the future. Whatever way you look at it, $8.5 million dollars for a domain name is some serious cash.
